Napa County Jail Roster

The Napa County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county jail. NapaCourt.us helps quickly find publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official website of the Napa County Department of Corrections, by calling the jail, or visiting it in person. The roster allows you to find out the detainee's name, booking date, charges, and bail amount. The CJNet system, where the roster is hosted, is maintained by the Napa County Sheriff's Office, and the data is updated throughout the day.

Search Current Inmates in Napa Jail

There are several ways to check if a specific person is in custody at the county jail.

Online Search

  1. Go to the Public In Custody Report page — this is the official report of individuals currently held in jail.
  2. The page displays a table with all detainees. Each entry includes the booking date and time, name, arrest information, booking code, charges, and bail.
  3. To find a specific person, use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) and enter the last name in Latin letters.
  4. For court case and ticket searches, use NapaCourt.us.

To start a search, you will need the person's full legal name. The booking number will expedite the process if known. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

Find Napa Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time a person is brought to jail and officially registered. This document records key arrest data:

  • Booking number (booking code)
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges
  • Bail amount
  • Arresting agency

Napa County publishes bookings from the past week through the Public Booking Report system. It displays records even of those who have already been released — but only for the last seven days.

If you need older records, contact the Sheriff's Office Records Bureau. This division maintains all booking and arrest warrant documents. Requests can be submitted in writing or in person. To check your own criminal history at the state level, use the California Department of Justice request procedure — fingerprinting via Live Scan will be required.

Search the Napa Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The In Custody Report page offers two main approaches to searching.

Search by Last Name

The roster is displayed as a single table. Open the browser search and enter the last name — the system will highlight all matches. A few tips:

  • Enter the last name in uppercase letters — this is how it is usually recorded in the system.
  • If the exact spelling is unknown, try entering just the first few letters.
  • A common last name may yield multiple results — check the name and booking date.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during registration. It appears as a numerical code (e.g., 202000533). Enter it in the browser's search bar, and the system will show a single record.

If the Search Yields No Results

  1. Check the spelling — even one extra letter will hide the record.
  2. The person may have already been released; then check the booking report for the past week.
  3. If the detainee has been transferred to a state facility, use the CDCR (CIRIS) search.
  4. Call the jail directly — the staff will confirm or deny the detention.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Napa

The In Custody Report roster is updated several times a day. However, there may be a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online system — usually from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on staff workload and time of day.

Several limitations should be considered:

  • Publication delay. During the booking procedure (photography, fingerprinting, medical examination), data has not yet entered the public report.
  • Disappearance after release. Once a person is released, their name disappears from the In Custody Report. The booking record remains available in the Booking Report for a week.
  • Not an archive. The roster only shows the current custody status. It does not replace a complete criminal record database.
  • Input errors. Sometimes the last name is recorded with a mistake or an alternative spelling is used — this complicates the search.

To obtain archival data, submit a request to the Sheriff's Records Bureau or use the Napa County Public Records portal. The California Public Records Act guarantees access to most government documents, although some materials — such as inmate medical data or juvenile records — remain confidential.
